CRESSIDA Dick embodied the phrase “failing upwards”.
She was an accident-prone, complacent, ineffectual Met chief who made even her dismal predecessor Bernard Hogan-Howe look good. Quite the feat.

Her disasters began long before she got the top job in policing. Why anyone thought she was the best candidate for it is beyond us. Any of the calamities she oversaw should have sunk her career:
The killing of innocent Jean Charles de Menezes. The Operation Midland hounding of other innocent men over a paedo’s lies.
Sarah Everard’s murder by a serving cop. The woeful, woke policing of Extinction Rebellion and Insulate Britain. The Wembley Euros fiasco.
The hideous bigotry at Charing Cross nick. Soaring teenage murders. Her botched Partygate intervention. London Mayor Sadiq Khan demanded rapid improvements.
Instead delusional Dame Cressida boasted she had already changed the Met for the better and vowed not to quit. Hours later, she did. The force now needs the top-to-bottom reform of which she seemed incapable.
Her replacement must be tough as nails, reject woke nonsense and focus relentlessly on cutting crime.

ON certain telling days the mask of the Remain diehard slips and we see with crystal clarity where their loyalty truly lies. Yesterday was such a day.

It is hypocritical enough for him to undermine Britain so blatantly just as Boris was flying out to a Nato summit.
But consider too Major’s own abysmal Government: A cesspit of criminal lies, financial sleaze, squalid sex scandals and disastrous economic incompetence which gifted Labour 13 years in power.
Major might not have become PM at all had he not sneakily concealed his illicit affair with Edwina Currie. Now he dares to lecture his successors on decency.
The notion that Britain’s global stock was higher under him is laughable. For 25 years this blinkered old bore has been irrelevant. Yet his every word was lapped up by the europhile Press and broadcast by the BBC and Sky, who would cut away from the Second Coming of Christ to break “news” that John Major had said something they liked.
Then the Remoaners turned their sneering gaze to Foreign Secretary Liz Truss’s supposed “humiliation” by Sergei Lavrov, a thuggish Putin lackey.
How they rejoiced! Why? Because they would literally side with a gangster state, a global pariah poised to invade a sovereign country, over the British Tory Government that took us out of the EU.
Brexit hatred has warped their perspective so totally that they no longer recognise right from wrong, good from evil.
Pity them. We’re not sure it’s curable.
