MUMBAI: In the 32nd match of the 15th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) played here on Wednesday, the sharp bowling of the Delhi Capitals bowlers shattered the Punjab Kings’ batting line-up, which just two days ago saw a 400-run match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals. The Punjab Kings’ 116-run target was won by the Delhi Capitals with the help of David Warner’s not-out half-century and the match was won by 9 wickets in 10.3 overs.
Warner and Prithvi Shaw gave a flying start to the Delhi Capitals who chased down the target and put 83 runs on the board in 6.3 overs and Prithvi was dismissed for 41 off 20 balls. Warner then teamed up with Sarfaraz Khan to lead the team to victory. Warner was 60 off 30 balls while Sarfaraz was unbeaten on 12 off 13 balls.
The Punjab Kings, who had earlier lost the toss and opted to bat first, had two big hits in the opening overs and both openers Shikhar Dhawan and Mayank Agarwal were on the board until the pavilion was over. The Punjab Kings could not recover from the early blow and were losing wickets at regular intervals and by the time they reached 85, half of their team had gathered in the pavilion. At the end of 20 overs, Punjab Kings were all out for 115 runs. Jitesh Sharma top-scored for Punjab Kings with 32 runs, while captain Mayank Agarwal scored 24 runs. Apart from these two, Shah Rukh Khan and Rahul Chahar reached double digits with 12-12 runs, while the rest of the players could not reach double digits. For Punjab Kings, Kuldeep Yadav, Akshar Patel, Lalit Yadav and Khalil Ahmed took 2-2 wickets, while one wicket went to Mustafizur Rahman.
