Every Wednesday for the last 15 years my articles on US visas have been published in Ig Jaratmitra’s ‘Darpan’ supplement and sometimes I write articles on Canadian Student Visas as well as Permanent Residents i.e. PR and many readers call and ask if Which country is better if you want to study abroad, do business, go to work, migrate and live forever? America or Canada?
Readers, this is the question that is baffling millions of people in India. Travel to the US or Canada? Send children to America or Canada for education? In which country are the job opportunities more? Which country is better if you want to do business? Which country should I go to if I want to stay forever? America or Canada? It is reasonable to ask this question in your mind but you have to give the answer to yourself.
How is your financial situation Where do most of your relatives, acquaintances, friends live? In what country do people who are overly supportive? How long have you studied Which subject do you want to study more? What do you do business What is the age Are you married or single? Like, loneliness or density? Does it feel like a cold region or do you prefer to stay in a place where the weather is balanced for twelve months? Do you speak English fluently? Can you communicate in French? You have to go to the United States for answers to many such questions that Canada’s answer depends on.
Canada is many times larger than the United States but has a tenth of the population of the United States. Apart from big cities like Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and other small cities, the population is very sparse. Even the largest and most populous cities have less population than our Surat. After five or six o’clock in the evening, the roads of the cities become smooth. The United States also has a very small population compared to India. Yet the population of the United States is 10 times greater than that of Canada.
Canada is located in the north of the United States, close to the North Pole, where it stays cold for twelve months. More than half of its regions are covered with snow for six months of the year. Even in a city like Toronto in winter the mercury drops below 0 degrees and reaches minus 20. Some universities are very good in Canada. The cost of studying in Canada is half as much as in American universities and in many universities it is one-fifth, but after studying in Canada, you have to struggle to get a job after studying in the United States. You will only get a job if you are very lucky in the field in which you have studied. Before hiring anyone in Canada, they want to know if the person has a Canadian experience. However, the laws in Canada allow you to stay and work after graduation.
If you are a graduate of the United States, you are offered an ‘optional practical training’ period of one year after graduation. In this one year you can get back all the expenses you have incurred for studying. If you have done a Masters course in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics at an American University then you are allowed to stay and work for 3 years instead of 1 year after studying. You get 3 years of practical training.
During this optional practical training you can apply for an H1B visa if you wish. If your petition is selected in a lottery, an H1B visa petition is filed for your benefit and approved, you can work in the United States for 6 years. In the meantime, your American employer may file a green card petition for you and you may remain in the United States permanently. You can apply to become an American citizen 5 years after receiving the green card. You can get a US green card even if you marry an American citizen or a green card holder. Canada has a very small population so Canada welcomes foreigners there.
Canada has decided to allow 4 lakh foreigners to come there every year but Canada only allows educated, experienced, rich and educated as well as young people to come there. Now you have to decide which country is best for you. If you plan to study in Canada next week, you will be given information on how to obtain a ‘Study Permit’ and a US Student Visa PR.
