The CBI said in the FIR that it had received credible information about a network of cricket bookies influencing the outcome of Indian Premier League matches based on inputs received from Pakistan. It was further written that in the guise of betting on IPL matches, they were trying to impress the general public. For this purpose, they have opened bank accounts using fake identity cards. These bank accounts were opened with bogus details like date of birth and without proper investigation by the bank officials.
The bookies were in contact with a Pakistani national
According to the CBI, the accused were in touch with a Pakistani national named Waqas Malik, whose number was found during a preliminary investigation. The agency’s first FIR names three persons, Dilip Kumar (Delhi), Gurram Satish and Gurram Vasu (both from Hyderabad), whose network has been involved in betting since 2013. The CBI has alleged that about Rs 10 crore was transacted in the accused’s account.
Involved the name of a government official
The second FIR registered by the central agency on Friday names Sajjan Singh, Prabhu Lal Meena, Ram Avtar and Amit Kumar Sharma. These four people are from Rajasthan. The second FIR names an unidentified government official and other private individuals who have been active in IPL cricket betting since 2010.
