Mumbai: Campbell Wilson has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) of Air India. But his appointment has yet to receive regulatory approval. Wilson is currently the head of Singapore Airlines’ largest carrier Scout. Campbell Wilson will resign as Scoot’s head on June 15. Tata has chosen a person who has experience in both budget and full service career. Because they have four airlines – AI and Vistara (full service), AI Express and AirAsia India
The appointment of a foreign national as CEO of an airline in India requires government approval before it can proceed. Turkey’s Ilkar Aisi was selected before Wilson was appointed as the new boss of Air India. But he turned down the offer following protests in the country over his previous political ties. Ilker Aisi worked for Turkish Airlines.
I look forward to working with him to build a world class airline: N Chandrasekhar
“I am delighted to welcome Campbell to Air India,” said N Chandrasekhar, chairman of Tata Group and AI. They are veterans of the aviation industry who have worked in multiple functions in major global markets. As well as Air India will benefit from their additional experience in building airline brands in Asia. I look forward to working with them to build a world class airline.

Air India is on the cusp of an exciting journey to become one of the best airlines in the world, providing world-class products and services with a unique customer experience that reflects Indian warmth and hospitality. I look forward to joining Air India and Tata’s partners in the mission to realize that ambition.
