BEIJING: Heavy rains have caused flooding in South China. At least 15 people have been killed and three others are reported missing in a series of rain-related accidents. China’s official news agency quoted the Wuping County Information Office as saying that two buildings had collapsed in a landslide in Fujian province, killing eight people.
Five other people were killed and three were missing in Yunnan province, a report said. Three children were swept away in floodwaters on Friday in Xincheng County in Guangxi region, two of whom died and one was rescued.
Damage to roads, bridges, power plants
The floods in China damaged roads, bridges, telecommunications and power plants in Qubei County, Yunnan Province. This place is 130 km away from the Vietnam border. The traffic system has been badly affected. People are having trouble getting around. However help is being given by the administration.
It continues to rain in Wooping County
According to reports, five bodies were found in the rubble of a factory in Fujian and three in the rubble of a residential building. It has been raining in Wooping County since Thursday evening. In a video shared online, the streets are filled with muddy water. Roads are reported to have been partially washed away in many places.
China breaks record for highest rainfall in 1,000 years
The year 2021 saw the heaviest rainfall in 1,000 years in China. It affected about 3 million people in Henan Province. More than 2,15,200 hectares of crops were damaged. As well as an economic loss of about 1.22 billion yuan (about 1886 million US dollars).
