Sunil Gavaskar, Vijay Merchant, Polly Umrigar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane… these are the names that Mumbai has given to Indian cricket. Apart from this, many Mumbai players have made their mark in international cricket for India. Now a new name is ready to be added to this list, and that is Suved Parker. The 21-year-old Suved made his debut in the Ranji Trophy 2022 quarter-final first-class match against Uttarakhand and Mumbai’s young batsman Suved Parker made a storm by scoring a double century in his first first-class match.
He scored 252 off 447 balls with 21 fours and 4 sixes against Uttarakhand in the Ranji Trophy 2022 quarter finals. With this he made many records in his own name. With a special connection with Rohit Sharma and Shardul Thakur, the batsman became the second Mumbai cricketer to score a double century in his debut first-class match. He completed his double century in 375 balls. Suved was run out after crossing the 250-run mark on the second day of the match. He scored 252 off 444 balls. During this time he hit 21 fours and four sixes. With the help of his innings, Mumbai scored 647 for eight in 166.4 overs.
Second Mumbaikar to achieve double century in first class debut
After Suved Amol Mazumdar, he became the second Mumbai batsman to score a double century in his first class debut. Majumdar scored 260 in his first-class debut against Haryana in the 1993-94 season. Interestingly, Majumdar, who is currently the coach of the Mumbai team, applauded Parker from the dressing room after crossing the double century mark.
Batting all-rounder
Suved Parker is a batting all-rounder. He is a right handed batsman and his bowling style is right hand off break. He was born on April 06, 2001. He plays for Mumbai and was part of India’s under-19 team in 2019-20. He studied from Swami Vivekananda International School. Rohit Sharma’s schooling also took place from here.
Ajinkya Rahane joined the team at the last minute
If Ajinkya Rahane had not suffered a hamstring injury during IPL 2022 last month, Suved Parker would have been serving a drink. However, due to Rahane’s injury, Parker was included in the Mumbai squad for the first knockout and made his debut at No. 4. This batsman proved his choice right. Rahane has played important innings for the fourth-ranked team. Suved did the same. Suved came to the crease after taking two wickets for 64 runs. He was unbeaten on the first day, scoring a century.
Recorded a record innings playing on a first-class debut
Suved Parkar became only the 12th Indian batsman to make a first-class debut with a double century. Bihar’s Sakibul Gani is the only Indian batsman to hit a triple century in his first-class debut. He scored 341 against Mizoram in Kolkata earlier this year. He is the highest run scorer in his debut match.
There is a special connection with Rohit Sharma and Shardul Thakur
Dinesh Lad trains Suved Parkar. Dinesh Lad has been the coach of Indian captain Rohit Sharma and fast bowler Shardul Thakur. Suved was part of the Indian team in the 2019 Under-19 Asia Cup, but did not find a place in the World Cup squad. Suved Parkar has come out of the same school where current Indian captain Rohit Sharma has come from. Rohit studied at Swami Vivekananda International School and learned the tricks of cricket there. Parker is also a student of the same school. He has scored many runs in local and age group cricket in Mumbai. Before the knockout stage, he was included in the Mumbai Ranji team for the first time.
