Guru Naidu Sanapati, the son of a farm laborer from Andhra Pradesh, made history at the IWF (International Weightlifting Federation) in Lyon, Mexico. He became the first Indian weightlifter to win a gold medal at the World Youth Championships. The 16-year-old weightlifter won gold in the 55kg category with a total effort of 230kg (104kg and 126kg). Ramaswami Sanapati, the father of Sanapati, a native of Vizianagaram in Andhra Pradesh, works in the fields to support his family. Sanapati’s life has been full of struggles. The only dream of Sanapati’s parents, who grew up in poverty since childhood, is for their son to get a government job. That is why he sent Guru Naidu to the academy for weightlifting training. So that his son’s life would be better. In an interview, Guru Naidu said that his parents do not know much about Commonwealth, Asiad and Olympics but their only dream is for their son to go a long way.
The farmer’s son, Sanapati, at one time had difficulty getting enough food and often went hungry and did not get enough food. Her father worked on someone else’s farm. Despite all the troubles, Guru Naidu did not give up and continued to pursue his dreams. It is because of this GG poison that today he has become a world champion by fighting against inequality. Asian Youth Weightlifting Championship 2020 bronze medal winner Sanapati is on top.
Ali Majeed of Saudi Arabia was second with 229kg (105kg and 124kg) and Yarasil Umrov of Kazakhstan was third with 224kg (100kg and 124kg).
In addition to Sanapati, India’s Soumya S Dalvi won a bronze medal in her event on the second day of the competition. Maharashtra’s Dalvi finished third in the girls’ 45kg category, lifting 148kg (65kg and 83kg). The plight of Guru Naidu’s family can be gauged from the fact that only recently did his parents board the train for the first time. And came out of Andhra Pradesh for the first time. Guru Naidu is still a minor and so his parents were called to Delhi for his visa before leaving for Mexico. Ramaswamy first reached Delhi by train with his wife. For this trip he arranged money by borrowing from here and there. Guru Naidu says his parents are working hard day and night to run the house. If it ever rains, his house starts dripping and Guru Naidu wants to get his family out of this misery. He hopes his medal will help him get a job. So that they can be the support of their family and give a good life to their family.
