BIRMINGHAM: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Warwickshire County Cricket Club have said they are investigating allegations of racist misconduct with Indian fans on the fourth day of the fifth Test match between India and England. Many Indian cricket fans shared information on Twitter on Monday that they had been discriminated against by other fans during the fourth day’s play. He claimed that racist remarks were made against him by some British fans.
Former Yorkshire cricketer Azim Rafique retweeted a social media post reporting racist behavior. An investigation into allegations of institutional apartheid in Yorkshire began after Rafik’s testimony before a British parliamentary committee last year and major reformist measures were taken. “I am disappointed to read this,” Rafiq said. “We are very sorry to read this,” he said in response to a tweet from Edgbaston’s official Twitter account. And we will not forgive this kind of behavior. We will investigate as soon as possible.
“We are investigating the matter,” Warwickshire said in a statement. “I spoke personally with the people who raised the issue after seeing the initial tweet, and now we’re talking to staff in the area to find out what happened,” said Edgbastnan chief executive Stuart Kane. It said no one in Edgbaston should face any form of abuse. A spectator present at the Hollis stand also alleged that despite many complaints, the staff present there did not take any action.
Employees did not respond, despite repeated reports of racist abusers
An audience member named Anil Sehmi tweeted that racist abuse was committed against Indian fans in Edgbaston’s Block 22 Eric Hollis. People used to beat us. We informed the staff present there and showed them the culprits at least 10 times but they did not respond, instead we were asked to sit in our seats. “We were also afraid of the safety of the women and children present with us, but we did not get any help even when we went out,” he wrote. This is unacceptable in today’s times.
Sledging among fans is not a big deal but what happened today was the worst: Kaushal Malade’s tweet
Another spectator, Kaushal Malade, wrote that it was sad to say that many of our members had faced racist abuse by some. We will share all information with Edgebest officials. Thanks to the England fans who supported us. He further wrote that there was no problem with sledging among the fans but what happened during today’s match was the worst abuse ever. The staff allowed this kind of misconduct to run rampant among Indian fans.
