Two years ago when the OTT platform was trying to stand on its own feet, a good series of Balaji Films watched on Zee-5 – Code M! It has a nice story on the theme of fake encounter in a military setup. Then we liked the role of Jennifer Winget in the role of Major Monica of Military Intelligence. Apart from that, this season starring Tanuj Veerwani, Rajat Kapoor and Seema Vishwas has a nice twist at the end making it a watchable series overall.
The second part of Code M is introduced. Major Monica is back and so is her ex-boyfriend Angad (Tanuj). Monica, who is in charge of the security of the Chief Minister at the army headquarters, foils the assassination attempt but feels that the attempt could not have been possible without the help of the army men. But as it was the chief minister’s talk, the CBI also comes into the fray and Monica is told to hand over the case to them. Monica doesn’t trust them so she continues to investigate on her own. He realizes that there have been such killings before, mainly targeting defense contractors. During the Kargil war, many soldiers lost their lives due to the bad goods provided by these defense contractors. Such contractors were being hunted one by one by a vigilance group of an army. Angad’s father is also killed in this way.
Monica’s childhood memories keep coming in flashbacks where her armyman father tries hard to investigate such corrupt people but fails. Then, in a fire accident, baby Monica and her mother come out of the burning house, but her father is trapped inside. In Monica’s investigation, these old links also come together and twists keep coming like in the first part. But unfortunately this is where the writing and screenplay falters. No compelling reason has been presented as to why it took so many years for the vigilante group to retaliate. Especially when they have the support of the army from within! Pros – Half-hour episodes are good for binge-watching; Jennifer Major again impressive as Monica; The chemistry between Jennifer and Tanuj is great! Its a weak story on the loan side and the rest of the cast doesn’t quite gel! The producer director is already ready for the third part so let’s hope these aspects improve in that season!
