Canada: Ripudaman Singh Malik, a controversial Sikh leader living in Canada, was shot dead. He was killed in the Canadian province of British Columbia. Confirming the incident, Ripudaman Singh Malik’s relative Jaspal Singh said that we do not know who killed Ripudaman. Her younger sister is reaching Canada. Ripudaman Singh Malik’s name came up in 1985 Air India flight hijacking case (Air India bombing case). In this incident, all the people on board the flight died in the air due to the bomb blast. Malik was later acquitted in the case.
According to the police, Malik (Ripudaman Singh) was shot outside his office in Surrey at 9 am on Thursday. Malik was shot at such a close range that it was impossible for him to escape. According to sources, a burnt car has also been found a short distance from where Ripudaman Malik was killed. However, the police are yet to find any connection between the two incidents. It is believed that this was an incident of target killing, which was carried out in a systematic manner.
The name came in the Air India blast case
Ripudaman Singh Malik was allegedly involved in the plot to plant a bomb on an Air India flight. In this incident which took place in the year 1985, Air India Flight No-182, also known as Kanishka, took off from Canada on 23 June 1985 and was bound for India. Meanwhile, when the flight reached the coast of Ireland, there was a loud explosion (Air India bombing case) and the plane was destroyed. All 329 people on board the plane lost their lives in this incident. Among the dead were passengers and crew members. Among those killed in the incident were 280 Canadian citizens. 29 families were completely destroyed in this sensational incident. In which 86 children, whose age was less than 12 years, were killed in this bombing.
Was there a connection with terrorist organization Babbar Khalsa?
Ripudaman Singh Malik is allegedly associated with terrorist outfit Babbar Khalsa. The organization has been accused of carrying out several bomb blasts and killing innocent people in Punjab. Malik is also said to be related to Babbar Khalsa terrorist Talwinder Singh Parmar. Parmar is believed to be the mastermind behind the blast on the Air India flight. Many countries including Canada, India, America have banned this organization.
The largest terrorist incident in Canadian history
Ripudaman Singh Malik and another co-accused Ajaib Singh Bagri were acquitted in the 2005 bombings. He was in prison for 4 years before being acquitted. After his acquittal, Malik sought $9.2 million in restitution from the Canadian government, which was denied by a British Columbia judge. The 1985 Air India bombing case is considered the worst terrorist incident in Canadian history. Canada has not been able to bring the perpetrators to justice till date.
