Britain: After the first round of voting in the race for the post of Prime Minister of Britain, Rishi Sunak of Indian origin is on top with 88 votes. Currently, besides Sunak, five more contenders are in the race for the Prime Minister. Britain’s new Prime Minister will replace current Prime Minister Boris Johnson as the leader of the ruling Conservative Party. According to a Bloomberg report, in addition to Sunak, the list includes Foreign Minister Liz Truss, Commerce Minister Penny Mordent, former Cabinet Minister Cammy Badenoch, MP Tom Tugendat and Attorney General Suella Braverman in the British Cabinet. Penny got 67, Liz 50, Cammy 40, Tom Tugendat 37 and Suella Braverman 32. After the initial elimination, the remaining eight candidates faced off in the first phase of voting. New Finance Minister Nadhim Jahavi got 25 votes while Jeremy Hunt got only 18 votes. In such a situation, both were out of the Prime Minister’s race. The second phase requires the support of at least 30 MPs. Sunakan has polled 88 MPs.
