Birmingham: Before the first match of the Commonwealth Games against Australia on Friday, one more member of the Indian women’s cricket team has tested positive for Corona and because of this, when the Indian women’s team left for Birmingham on Sunday. Two female players could not join them and they have to stay in India.

Earlier, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chairman Sourav Ganguly had said that a member of the women’s team has contracted corona. Before the Commonwealth Games, the Indian women’s team trained at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
Women’s cricket is making its debut at the Commonwealth Games. An official of the Indian Olympics Association (IOA) told PTI that the second player’s corona test report has come positive before the women’s cricket team left. Both these players have stayed in India. A BCCI source informed that according to the Corona protocol, they will be able to join the team only after the test report of both of them comes negative. Looking at the current situation, it is unlikely that these two players will play in the first match against Australia. India are scheduled to play their second match on July 31 against arch-rivals Pakistan and the final league match against Barbados on August 3. All Commonwealth cricket matches, including the final, will be played at Edgbaston.
