New Delhi: Indian captain Rohit Sharma has given a strong reply to the critics before playing the five-match T20 series against the West Indies. Rohit said that even though our performance in the World Cup was bad, we will continue to move forward with new ideas. Players will not play in the traditional old way. The new approach has given more freedom to the players, which has brought success to the team after a disappointing World Cup campaign in which India did not make it to the second round of the World Cup.
Till now we did not play orthodox cricket
Rohit said ahead of the five-match T20 series against West Indies, ‘We didn’t get a favorable result in the last World Cup, but that doesn’t mean we played bad cricket all these years and we were playing orthodox cricket, I don’t agree with that. If we lose one or two matches in the World Cup, it does not mean that we did not take advantage of opportunities. Rohat Sharma said, ‘If you look at our performance before the World Cup, we won almost 80 percent of the matches. How could we have won so many matches if we had adopted a conservative approach. It is true that we lost in the World Cup, matches go on and on, but that does not mean that we did not play well.
Players were given the freedom to play freely
Rohit said, ‘We didn’t change anything in that we played the matches freely, we were playing as before, but the players were given freedom. Play freely and don’t take any kind of unnecessary pressure. If you play freely, your performance will show. Rohit said that the Indian team and its fans will have to move forward with such changes. He further said that “it is possible to fail in the kind of cricket we are playing now but that is also good because we are learning something new and trying to do something different.”
Our players are not playing badly
The Indian captain said, ‘The fact that there will be mistakes by playing freely does not mean that the players are playing badly. It means we are trying something new. Everyone has to change with time and we are changing and I think people sitting outside also need to change their thinking. Rohit has said that the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup to be held in Australia later this year is almost certain and only a few venues are yet to be decided.
“There are some spots in the team that are yet to be filled and we know what we have to do to fill those spots,” he said. We are paying attention to these things in the matches we are playing now. Whatever series we are playing is important. Certainly the World Cup is around the corner, but whatever series you play for India is important, what we achieved in England was important and we want to take it forward.
