America: The American space agency NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope (James Webb Space Telescope) has once again surprised scientists with its work. This time the telescope has taken a picture of the star’s death for the first time. A supernova tends to blast a dying star. This is commonly called the death of a star. Scientists say that this discovery has started a new era of research. Just days after starting its science mission, the James Webb Space Telescope’s NIRCam camera spotted a bright light 3-4 billion light-years from Earth.
This light was observed in Galaxy SDSS.J141930.11+5251593. Within five days, this bright light faded, which is believed to be a supernova, which was recorded by the James Webb Space Telescope after the explosion. This discovery is a surprise to everyone. Because the James Webb is a telescope it was not designed to detect supernovae. Such work is carried out on a large scale by survey telescopes, which scan space every short interval.
Sent photo in first week
The image surfaced in the first week of James Webb’s launch. Astronomers believe they have hundreds of chances to find a supernova. Along with this, it is also believed that the James Webb Telescope can regularly detect supernovae, which is very exciting. This is why the web was created to search for galaxies that formed at the beginning of the universe. The James Webb Space Telescope is different from NASA’s older Hubble telescope. It uses infrared cameras and mid-infrared instruments. With the help of which we can also see the cosmic dust around the galaxy.
How do supernovae happen?
When a star runs out of nuclear fuel, it explodes. But capturing this very event is a major achievement for the James Webb Space Telescope. James Webb was made for something else, but this time he invented it. Talking about supernovae, finding them is a difficult task. Because the explosion lasts only a few seconds. Meanwhile, the glow of dust and gas present after the explosion also gradually diminishes after a few days. In such a situation, it is necessary to look in the right direction with the telescope at the right time.
Also took a picture of the galaxy
James Webb previously photographed the beautiful spiral galaxy Messier 74 (or NGC 628), located 32 million light-years from us. Contains 100 billion stars. This is the best example of a spiral galaxy. The James Webb Telescope took a picture of this distant galaxy using a NIR camera (Near Infrared Camera). Scientists are not interested in a picture of a galaxy because it is too beautiful. Instead, they are interested because they believe it has a black hole at its center. NASA shared the image of the galaxy on July 22 in its blog post.
