Birmingham: Indian wrestlers have competed in Commonwealth Games 2022. In eight, four Indian wrestlers confirmed their place in the final of the ongoing Games in Birmingham. Among the wrestlers who reached the finals are Bajrang Punia, Deepak Punia, Sakshi Malik and Anshu Malik. Not only this, Mohit Grewal and Divya Kakra have made it to the bronze medal match. After India’s resounding win, South Africa has slipped to 7th place while India moved to 6th place in the medal tally.
India has bagged three gold medals in wrestling in a single day. After Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik, Deepak Punia has led India to a golden victory. He beat the Pakistani player in the final match.
Sakshi Malik won the gold medal
Sakshi Malik has won the gold medal. Sakshi Malik beat Canada’s Ana Godinez Gonzalez 4-4 bye-fall in the women’s 62kg final. Sakshi Malik was trailing 4-0 at one point but in one innings she outclassed the Canadian.
Bajrang Punia won the gold medal for India
Bajrang Punia has won the gold medal for India. In men’s freestyle 65 kg, Bajrang Punia beat Canada’s L. McLean won 9-2. Bajrang took four points in the first half. McLean then tried to come back with two points in the second half but Bajrang did not allow it. Anshu Malik faced Nigeria’s Odunayo Folasade in the women’s 57kg final but Anshu was not at her best and lost 3-7. Anshu tried to come back with some points in the last seconds but it was not enough. However, now Anshu will have to be satisfied with a silver medal. On the other hand, Odunayo won this third gold medal in a row. Deepak Punia entered the final by defeating Canada’s Alexander Moore 3-1 in the freestyle 86 kg category. Where he will face Mohammad Inam of Pakistan.
Nigeria’s Divya Kakran loses in women’s Oboruddu Blessing quarterfinals
Nigeria’s Divya Kakran lost to Oboruddu Blessing in the quarterfinals of the women’s 68 kg weight category. But later Blessing reached the finals, giving Divya a chance to play the repechage round. Mohit Grewal (125 kg) lost in the semi-finals.
