New York: Indian women are increasingly dominating the world. Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj has taken charge as India’s first woman Permanent Representative to the UN. She is India’s first woman ambassador to the United Nations headquarters in New York. The 58-year-old Cambodian presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. India’s new Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ruchira Kamboj said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been a pioneer in using geospatial technology for governance. Ruchira Kamboj, Ambassador of the United Nations Outreach Program for the Second Geospatial World Information Congress, said that geospatial technology plays a very important role in the development of human civilization. Ruchira Kamboj is a 1987 batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service. Not only this, she has also been the topper of the 1987 civil service batch. Ruchira, India’s first woman ambassador to Bhutan, started her career as third secretary in France. He was assigned the responsibility of Second Secretary in the Indian Embassy in France. Ruchira worked as Under Secretary in the Western Europe Division of the Ministry of External Affairs during 1991-96. From 1996-1999 she also served as First Secretary in Mauritius and Chief of Chancery at the Indian High Commission in Port Louis. Ruchira has also served as Ambassador, Permanent Representative of India to UNESCO. She was appointed India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Headquarters in June. She has worked on many political issues including UN Security Council Reform, UN Peacekeeping, Middle East Crisis etc. India is halfway through the second year of its two-year term as a non-permanent member of the 15-nation UN Security Council. That means India’s tenure in the Council ends in December. Earlier this month, India will also preside as president of the powerful United Nations. It is a great honor for me to serve my country through this new post. In a brief statement, Kamboj said, I am very honored to take up the post of Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations. Especially in this momentous year when we celebrate the 75th anniversary of India’s independence.
