A LITTLE NOW, A LITTLE IN THE PAST An Exploration of Home, Memory, and Transition

London, UK – February 2025 – In an era where the concept of home is increasingly unstable—bought, sold, compressed, redefined—what does it truly mean to belong somewhere? Multi-media artist Kai Marks, a German filmmaker based in London, explores this question in his latest statement documentary, A Little Now, A Little in the Past, premiering online on March 1, 2025.

At just five minutes long, the film is both fleeting and deeply resonant. Shot in a single take, it follows Noa Johnson as she revisits her childhood home for the final time, walking through its empty rooms after her parents’ divorce, just before the house is sold. It is a quiet moment, yet one filled with a profound sense of transition—a meditation on what remains once the physical space of home is lost.

But A Little Now, A Little in the Past extends beyond a single story. It is a reflection on our generation’s evolving relationship with home—a subject that has become increasingly urgent in the face of rising housing costs, migration, and shifting urban landscapes.

“I traveled for a year without a home base,” Marks explains. “I saw people leaving, rebuilding, forgetting, and redefining what home meant to them. Then I met Noa. I had only known her for a few weeks when we walked through this space—this house caught in limbo, no longer hers but not yet someone else’s. That experience captured everything I had been trying to articulate.”

Shot in Austin, Texas, the film combines documentary realism with philosophical inquiry, weaving together personal narratives, research, and unscripted conversations. The result is a work that is both intimate and universal—unpolished, honest, and deeply reflective.

Online Premiere: March 1, 2025
