From Early Fascinations to Filmmaking Achievements

Abdulrahman Al-Mana’s journey into filmmaking began in his youth, where his fascination with movies and storytelling shaped his ambitions. Growing up, films were his window to the world, allowing him to explore diverse cultures and environments. His passion for visual storytelling led him to delve into scriptwriting and film production. The turning point came when he produced his first short film, igniting a desire to create more stories and bring them to life on the screen.

Education and Professional Journey

Al-Mana’s educational path took him to the United Kingdom, where he pursued a Bachelor’s degree with honours in Film and TV Production at Keele University. This opportunity came through a country-sponsored scholarship, aligning with Qatar’s Vision 2030 to localize the film production industry. The experience of studying abroad enriched his understanding of filmmaking and provided him with the skills needed to contribute significantly to Qatar’s burgeoning film industry.

During his studies, Abdulrahman was particularly inspired by courses in scriptwriting and Film and TV production, which helped him hone his craft. The mentorship he received further guided him toward his current industry, reinforcing his commitment to creating impactful films that resonate with audiences globally.

Vision for the Future of Filmmaking in Qatar

Looking ahead, Al-Mana envisions Qatar becoming a leading hub for film production, in line with Vision 2030. He aims to merge Qatar’s cultural heritage with cutting-edge technology to create films that garner global recognition. Qatar’s investment in state-of-the-art studios and production facilities, coupled with talent training programs, positions the country to attract regional and international filmmakers.

Al-Mana is committed to creating films that bridge cultures and resonate with diverse audiences. His current projects include “Art of Life 2023,” filmed in London, and “The Road 2023,” a collaboration with the Doha Film Institute. He is also working on a culturally significant film about the Arabian Bisht, set to be filmed in Doha. These projects reflect his goal of producing impactful stories that elevate Qatar’s presence in the global film industry.

Abdulrahman’s greatest achievements include being among the first Qatari graduates in film production through a national scholarship. His films have garnered recognition and awards at international film festivals, such as the Dubai Film Festival, Manchester Film Festival, and the Swedish International Film Festival. Notably, he was honored as one of the top three directors at Greece Athena Film Festival, a significant accolade for an Arab filmmaker.

Advice for Aspiring Filmmakers

For those considering a career in film production, Al-Mana emphasizes the importance of passion and education. Studying film production can provide valuable knowledge and skills, but practical experience is equally essential. He advises aspiring filmmakers to build strong teams, as filmmaking is a collaborative effort that requires diverse talents working together to achieve the best results.
