New Delhi: Pakistan’s (Pakistan) Prime Minister (PM) Shahbaz Sharif has received a big shock. His son (Son) Hamza Shahbaz has been removed from the post of Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. With this the Supreme Court has announced that Parvez Elahi will be the new CM of Punjab. On Tuesday, the Supreme Court gave this decision calling Deputy Speaker Mohammad Mazari’s decision illegal. Hamza Shahbaz was sworn in as the CM of Punjab province on Saturday. A day earlier, he was re-elected by a margin of just three votes. However, there were protests across the country against his victory. His victory was challenged in the Supreme Court by rival candidate Chaudhary Parvez Elahi. On the direction of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, voting for the post of Chief Minister was held in Punjab province on Friday. Hamza was declared the winner in this election.
In the 368-member Punjab assembly, Hamza’s party Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) got 179 votes while Elahi’s party got 176 votes. However, Deputy Speaker of the Assembly Dost Mohammad Majri rejected 10 votes of Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) party candidate Chaudhry Parvez Elahi citing Article 63-A of the Constitution. After which Hamza became the Chief Minister of Punjab by a margin of only three votes. PML-Q is an ally of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). But now the Supreme Court has termed the decision of Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Dost Mohammad Majri as unconstitutional.
The Supreme Court has now asked Punjab Governor Baligur Rehman to administer oath to Parvez Elahi as CM. It has also been said that if they do not do so, President Arif Alvi will administer this oath. The Supreme Court of Pakistan said that Pervez Elahi is the CM of Punjab as he got 186 votes, while Hamza got 179 votes. This decision was given by a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court. It included Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Munib Akhtar.
