New Delhi: China is building the world’s largest telescope ring to study the Sun. According to the available information, there is no such big scientific figure anywhere in the world. Around this ring are large telescopes, with the help of which China will study solar eruptions (coronal mass ejections), solar flares and solar storms. So that the calamity coming to the earth can be avoided. The telescope is being built on a mountainous plateau in southwest China’s Sichuan province. It has been named the Daocheng Solar Radio Telescope (DSRT). Upon completion, the entire ring will have a total of 313 telescope antennas. Each antenna is 19.7 feet in diameter. While the diameter of the entire rings is 3.13 km.
According to information from sources, this telescopic ring will take pictures of the Sun through radio waves. Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) are a type of solar explosion that erupts from the Sun. If the solar waves emanating from them are deflected towards the Earth, they can cause many problems. Earth’s electricity grids can be disrupted. Satellites can be useless. Mobile communication system may be down. The lives of astronauts living in space may also be at risk. Chinese scientists have expressed hope that this telescope will be built by the end of this year. The ring is part of China’s Meridian Project, which is designed to study the atmosphere of space from Earth. The project also involves Chinese spectral radioheliography, through which Chinese scientists will monitor the movement of the sun over Mongolia.
Radioheliography will reportedly have 100 dish-antennas. These will be engaged in a three-armed spiral arrangement. So we can study the Sun with a much larger frequency band. Those who could not do DSRT. For this project, the government has installed 300 machines at 31 stations in China. 10 institutes and universities including National Space Science Center are involved in this project. The most severe solar storms in the world occurred in 1859, 1921 and 1989. Due to which electricity supply was disrupted in many countries. Besides, the grid also failed. Darkness prevailed in many states for hours.
According to reports, there were no electrical grids in 1859, so they were not affected, but the compass needle continued to move for several hours. Due to which sea traffic was disrupted. The northern lights seen at the North Pole, a.k.a. the aurora borealis, were seen forming in the Colombian sky at the equator. The Northern Lights are always formed at the poles. The hydro power grid in Quebec, northeastern Canada, failed due to the 1989 solar storm. Half of the country was covered in darkness for 9 hours. There was no electricity anywhere. There have been no solar storms for the past two decades. Solar activity is very weak. This does not mean that solar storms cannot occur. It seems that the silence of the sun is the silence before a major solar storm.
