London: President Draupadi Murmu, who is on a three-day visit to London to attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey on Monday, signed a condolence book on behalf of the Indian government on Sunday. President Murmu went to London’s Lancaster House with Acting High Commissioner Sujit Ghosh, where world leaders were coming to sign a book of condolence in memory of Queen Elizabeth II. The 96-year-old Queen died in Scotland on September 8.
All heads of state are expected to attend the funeral ceremony
Murmu also paid tribute to her on Sunday at Westminster Hall, where Britain’s longest-serving queen is laid to rest, with her funeral to be held at 11am on Monday.
The President of India, who arrived here on Saturday evening, will join around 500 world leaders and royals from around the world for the funeral. President Murmu has been invited to a reception hosted by King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla at Buckingham Palace on Sunday, ahead of the Queen’s funeral. All heads of state and other dignitaries who attended the funeral are expected to attend the ceremony, which has been described as an ‘official government event’.
Big screens across Britain were set up to show the Queen’s funeral live
London, dt. 18 (PTI): Big screens have been installed in Britain’s gardens and several cinema halls are gearing up to show the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II from Westminster Abbey in London on Monday morning, the British government said on Sunday. The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) said areas where the public could view the funeral would be set up in London and Windsor, with Monday being a public holiday across Britain.
A minute’s silence will be observed across the country at 8am on Monday. Large screens will be set up across the country, including in London’s Hyde Park, Birmingham’s Centenary Square and Coleraine Town Hall in Northern Ireland, DCMS said.
