New Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) will return to its original pre-Covid format from the 2023 season, with teams playing matches at their home ground and the opponent’s playground. Sourav Ganguly, president of the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI), has informed the organizations connected with the board about this.
- BCCI President Ganguly informed the board related organizations regarding the new format of IPL
- The tournament will be played in 2023 as per the pre-Covid format where each franchise team played at home and away grounds.
In 2020, due to the outbreak of the Corona epidemic, the IPL was organized in some places. In 2020, it was held in empty stadiums at three venues in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi in the UAE. In 2021, this T20 tournament was organized at four venues in Delhi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Chennai. But now the epidemic is under control and hence the league will be played in the old format of home ground and opposition team’s ground.
In a message sent to the state units, Ganguly said that the IPL will be organized from next year in the format of playing matches at the home ground and the opposition team’s ground. All 10 teams will play their home matches at their respective venues. BCCI is holding its full domestic season for the first time since 2020 with teams playing in the old home and away format.
BCCI also plans to host the much-awaited Women’s IPL from next year
The BCCI is also planning to host the much-awaited Women’s IPL early next year. PTI reported last month that the Women’s IPL could be held in March after the Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa. In a message sent on September 20, Ganguly said that the BCCI is currently working on organizing the much-awaited Women’s IPL. Its first session is likely to be held early next year. Apart from Women’s IPL, BCCI is also going to organize Girls Under-15 One Day Tournament.
