Over the past few years, the internet has collectively agreed soda tastes better at McDonald’s, and apparently, it’s all due to the straw.

Some fans were upset when McDonald’s switched over to paper straws from plastic ones.
The seemingly extra-large straws got flimsy before guests could finish their drinks. But the large design is key to getting that classic taste in all their sodas.
Former McDonald’s employee Michael Ryan, who goes by @EvilGlitterQueen on the app, posted a TikTok sharing some industry secrets about what makes customers crave soda from the fast-food joint.
“I worked at McDonald’s,” Ryan says in the video. “You’d think they are just fast-food and s*** but they have so much science behind everything.”
If you frequent McDonald’s you may have noticed the “floppy” straws.
This is intentional. Ryan explains how the wider straws let more carbonation hit your tongue and makes the soda taste better.
Another reason your drinks taste better is due to an exclusive contract between the restaurant and Coca-Cola.
“McDonald’s actually commissions Coke for their own recipe of syrup. That’s why their Coke has a little bit more sugar and a lot more flavor.”

Ryan revealed more secrets about the food, including the famous chicken nuggets.
“Tyson actually makes their chicken nuggets. They’re actually not that processed, they’re made by Tyson and they’re privately labeled.
The chicken is also injected with a saltwater mixture which acts as a brine to keep everything flavorful and moist.
A former employee, Ashton, 19, learned some must-know secrets about the chain.
In a TikTok video, Ashton shared her intel with millions of viewers and thousands of commenters who expressed amazement at her revelations.
First up, Ashton shared the burger you should be getting every time you have a craving.
“Quarter meat is fresh,” Ashton explained. “It’s in a fridge, it’s not frozen, and it’s cooked to order every time.
She also told customers to ask for their cookies to be made fresh. This only takes two minutes but the cookies taste so much better when they’re warm, she says.
If cookies don’t satisfy your sweet tooth and you opt for a McFlurry, don’t ask for extra Oreos or M&Ms. Rather, to get an even distribution just ask the employee to mix the ice cream really well.
