Details have emerged that Andrey Botykov, one of the scientists involved in the development of the Covid-19 vaccine ‘Sputnik V’ in Russia, was strangled to death with a belt in his apartment. The police have arrested an accused on the charge of murder.
Botykov, 47, who worked as a senior researcher at the Gamaleya National Research Center for Ecology and Mathematics, was found dead in his apartment on Thursday, a Russian news agency reported. Botykov was one of 18 scientists who developed the Sputnik V vaccine in 2021 and was awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland award to virologists.
An investigative official in Russia said in a statement that the scientist’s murder is being investigated. One accused has been arrested in this case. The accused strangles Botikov with a belt and runs away, though he is apprehended. According to investigating agencies, the scientist was killed in a domestic dispute. A suspect was arrested shortly after Botnikov’s body was found, according to the Federal Investigation Agency. The location of the attacker was known in no time. The accused youth has a previous criminal record, already facing trial for committing a serious offence. In the near future, the investigation team will file an application in court to keep the accused in custody pending trial.
