Mumbai: Delhi Capitals chased down the target of 224 for 2 in the Women’s Premier League match played today on Sunday, with the help of attacking half-centuries from Shefali Verma and skipper Meg Lanning and a 162-run first-wicket partnership between the two. Due to the strong bowling of Royal Challengers Bangalore team Tara Norris, Delhi Capitals could only reach 163 runs for 8 wickets and won by 60 runs. Tara Norris, who took a record five wickets in the match, was declared the player of the match.

Chasing the target, the RCB team got off to a good start with Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine putting on 41 runs for the first wicket, although Sophie was dismissed in the fifth over and their run rate slowed down with it. After that Tara Norris picked up four wickets in two overs to put them on the back foot and they were unable to come out of it and could only manage 163 for eight in 20 overs. Captain Mandhana contributed 35, all-rounder Heather Knight 34 and Alice Perry 31 for RCB. Megan Shutt was not out scoring 30 runs. Knight and Shutt put on a 28-ball 54-run partnership to reduce the margin of defeat.
Tara Norris set a unique record as an Associate Country player in the WPL, becoming the first bowler to take five wickets
Records have started to be made in the first two days in the Women’s Premier League which started on Saturday, Tara Norris took five wickets on Sunday and became the first bowler to take five wickets in the Women’s Premier League. Also, she became the first player to play for an associate country in the WPL. Tara Norris is from the United States and is the only associate country player to be picked up by a team in the WPL auction. Tara Norris took four wickets in her second over and took 5 wickets for 29 runs in a spell of four overs. Along with this being her best performance as an associate country player in the Women’s IPL, this is also the overall best bowling performance in the Women’s IPL so far.
