Kolkata: Yuzvendra Chahal’s record-breaking bowling performance helped Rajasthan Royals restrict Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to 149 for eight in the IPL here on Thursday, after Yashwi Jaiswal’s aggressive 98 off 47 balls with 12 fours and 5 sixes in 13.1. After capturing the target at the cost of 1 wicket in the over itself, they won the match by 9 wickets and reached the third position due to 12 points and a good run rate. Along with Yashaswi, Sanju Samson was not out for 48 runs with the help of 5 sixes and 2 fours in 29 balls. There was also a 121 run not out partnership between these two.
KKR’s frontline batsmen failed to take the first innings on a dry Eden Garden wicket, although Vyankatesh Iyer then took over and played a key role in taking the team to 149 with a half-century. Chahal completed his development by taking two wickets of Venkatesh and Shardul Thakur in three balls. Even after two wickets fell in 12 balls, Venkatesh continued his innings well to score a 39-ball half-century before being caught out by Chahal for 57 off 42 balls. Apart from that, Nitish Rana scored 22 runs and Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 19 runs, while Rinku Singh was dismissed for 16 runs.
Chahal’s feat broke Bravo’s record to become the highest wicket-taker in the IPL
Kolkata: In the 56th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 (IPL 2023), Rajasthan Royals (RR) spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has broken Dwayne Bravo’s record for most wickets in IPL. Chahal has now become the highest wicket taker in this league. With four wickets in today’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Chahal has taken 187 wickets to his name in the IPL.
Chahal broke Bravo’s record of 183 as he dismissed Kolkata Knight Riders captain Nitish Rana and then went on to take three more wickets. Chahal made this record in 143rd match in IPL. While Dwayne Bravo took 183 wickets in 161 matches. Not only this, Chahal also became the first spinner in the history of IPL to take the most wickets in this league. Apart from Chahal and Bravo, India’s senior spinner Piyush Chawla is now third in terms of wickets. Chawla has taken 174 wickets in IPL. Amit Mishra has 172 wickets while Ravichandran Ashwin has 171 wickets.
