New Delhi: Delhi Capitals’ performance in the Indian Premier League 2023 has been very disappointing. After which two major members of the coaching staff in the franchise have decided to part ways with the team. Former Indian fast bowler Ajit Agarkar and former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson have bid farewell to Delhi Capitals. Ajit Agarkar, who is leading the race to become the chief selector of the Indian team, resigned as the assistant coach of IPL franchise Delhi Capitals on Thursday.
As Agarkar’s name came forward, the annual salary of the BCCI selection committee chief was Rs. 1 crore will have to be increased, while the salary of the remaining members will also be Rs. 90 lakhs will have to be increased. Delhi Capitals assistant coach and commentator Agarkar earns more than the annual package of the chief selector and this is the reason BCCI has to review the current pay scale.
Agarkar and Shane Watson are no longer part of the support staff
Agarkar was reportedly in the race and now with the news of him quitting the Delhi Capitals team, it is clear that he could be the main selector while picking the T20 squad for the upcoming tour of the West Indies. Delhi Capitals have confirmed that Agarkar and Shane Watson are no longer part of the support staff. In 2021, when Chetan Sharma of North Zone became the chairman of the committee, Agarkar also gave an interview for the post of selector. The 45-year-old Agarkar has played 191 ODIs, 26 Tests and four T20Is.
MCA was not selected due to earlier problems against Agarkar
Earlier Mumbai Cricket Association had problem with Agarkar’s candidature and that is why he was not selected. Apart from this, if Agarkar had been involved, Chetan Sharma could not have become the president. The MCA incumbents are no longer in trouble because they have Salil Ankola.
The names of Dilip Vengsarkar and Ravi Shastri were also speculated
Former batsman Dilip Vengsarkar and former all-rounder and former head coach Ravi Shastri were also speculated to be the selection chairman. But there is no confirmation whether he has applied or not.
