According to media reports, the driver of a truck carrying a shipping container lost control of the truck in Lodiani, western Kenya, causing the truck to skid and overturn. The truck collided violently with other vehicles on the road leading to movie scenes. Several videos have surfaced after the accident in which damaged minibuses and trucks, as well as cars and motorcycles that were involved in the accident, were seen torn to pieces.
Regional Police Commander Tom Odera gave a preliminary estimate of the death toll at 48. After further investigation, three more bodies were found buried under the vehicles, bringing the death toll to 51. Apart from this, the police officer said that at least 36 people have been injured in the accident and have been shifted to the hospital for treatment. It is also found that the condition of some of the injured in the hospital is very serious. Because of this, it is possible that the death toll in this accident may increase.
