Flights and accommodation can eat into a considerable amount of a holiday budget – but of course once you arrive, you’ll need to make sure you’ve kept enough back to see the sights too.
But there are plenty of tourist attractions that don’t cost a penny.
So you can make the most of a destination while keeping things wallet-friendly.
But where do the best ones lie?
Well, Casago, a holiday home rental company, has done the hard work for us and has rounded up the best free attractions in the world – using data from five-star ratings on TripAdvisor reviews.
Coming in first place is the Mini Harp Museum in Bruges, Belgium, run by harpist Luc Vanlaere. This attraction, which is also a venue for concerts dedicated to musical instrument, scooped the top spot with 94.5 % of reviews coming in with five-star ratings.
Next up, is the National Museum of the US Air Force – one of three places in the US to make up the top 10. Guests can enjoy exhibitions covering different eras of American Air Force history – all without costing a penny.
In third place is Horseshoe Falls, the biggest of three waterfalls that make up Niagara Falls. So if you don’t want to splash out on a boat experience, like Maid of the Mist, you can simply soak up the views from this natural viewing spot.
Elsewhere, Mexico’s Lake Bacalar, India’s Golden Temple, and Australia’s War Memorial place within the top 10 rankings.
