TECH giants TikTok and Snapchat have signed a pledge to tackle AI-generated child sexual abuse images.
The firms backed the clampdown at an event with Home Secretary Suella Braverman over concerns abuse of artificial intelligence could âoverwhelmâ the net.
A total of twenty-seven organisations backed the move including the Internet Watch Foundation along with the governments in the US and Australia.
The IWF showed thousands of images could be found on the dark web seen as realistic enough to be seen as real imagery under UK law.
Home Secretary Suella Braverman said: âChild sexual abuse images generated by AI are an online scourge.
âThis is why tech giants must work alongside law enforcement to clamp down on their spread.
âThe pictures are computer-generated but they often show real people â itâs depraved and damages lives.
âThe pace at which these images have spread online is shocking and thatâs why we have convened such a wide group of organisations to tackle this issue head-on.
âWe cannot let this go on unchecked.â
Meanwhile, the City of London are calling for more short-term business visas to be granted to allow more international workers to develop AI technology.
Chris Hayward, Policy chairman, said it was also important firms developed âhome grownâ talent in the developing sector.
