From May to October 2026, the Shaoxing Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism is hosting the third Shaoxing Cultural Tourism Overseas Culture Week on four major social media platforms—Instagram, X, YouTube, and Facebook—through its overseas new media network, “Shaoxing: A Gateway to China’s History” (Study Shaoxing · Understand China). During the event, a traveler from Europe arrived in Shaoxing for an immersive two-day, one-night cultural experience.

During the visit, the traveler began a journey through Yue culture along the thousand-year-old Zhedong Canal (Eastern Zhejiang Canal); strolled through the Bazi Bridge Historical and Cultural Block, getting close to its ancient bridges and traditional waterside residences; visited the Mausoleum of Yu the Great to trace the ancient legend of flood control; stopped at the Hall of the King of Yue to learn about the story of King Goujian; and explored Xi Shi’s Hometown to discover the story of the legendary beauty. The journey continued to the Fenghuangshan Archaeological Site, where the roots of Yue civilization could be experienced firsthand; the Porcelain Source Cultural Town, known for the charm of Yue kiln celadon; and the Yue Opera Town, where the melodious strains of Yue Opera filled the air. As night fell, the traveler boarded the “Drunken Journey: Long Songs, Dreaming of Shaoxing” night cruise, immersed in a spectacular interplay of light, water, and performance while discovering the thousand-year legend of this ancient city.
Looking ahead, Shaoxing Cultural Tourism will continue to invite travelers from target source-market countries to experience the unique journey of “Becoming Chinese,” enabling more international visitors to experience this thousand-year-old city firsthand, steeped in the charm of Jiangnan, China.
The third Shaoxing Overseas Culture Week has been rolling out a series of activities, including themed videos, the “48 Hours in Shaoxing” inbound tourism itinerary, the “Hello Shaoxing” global touring photo exhibition, and overseas social media engagement challenges. Through these initiatives, the event presents a multi-dimensional picture of Shaoxing’s calligraphy, opera, huangjiu (Chinese rice wine), and poetic way of life to audiences around the world, conveying a contemporary expression of the ancient city’s distinctive Eastern aesthetics.
