Navi Mumbai: In the 48th league match of the 15th season of IPL played here on Tuesday, Punjab Kings bowlers led by Kagiso Rabada failed to score despite the Gujarat Titans’ power hitter failing to score. Punjab Kings won the match by 8 wickets in the 16th over for the loss of two wickets.
The Punjab Kings lost Johnny Bairstow’s wicket early in the innings, but then Shikhar Dhawan and Bhanuka Rajapaksa put on 87 runs for the victory. Rajapaksa was dismissed for 40 off 28 balls. Dhawan and Liam Livingstone then teamed up to win the match by 8 wickets in the 16th over. In the final over of Mohammad Shamina’s quota, Livingstone completed the match in the 16th over with 28 runs with three sixes and two fours. Dhawan was 62 while Livingstone were unbeaten on 30 off 10 balls.
Gujarat Titans, who won the toss and elected to bat first, did not have a good start as opener Shubhaman Gill was dismissed early. Riddhiman Saha, however, continued to hit in the powerplay, although he was dismissed for 21 after Sai Sudarshan batted with one end saved, while his partners kept changing from the opposite end. Captain Hardik Pandya 1, David Miller 14, Rahul Tewatia 11 and Rashid Khan were all out for zero Gujarat lost six wickets for 112 runs in 16.3 overs. Despite changing partners from the opposite end, Sudarshan continued to score and in the end he was not out for 65 off 50 balls with the help of 5 fours and a six. For Punjab Kings, Kagiso Rabada took 4 wickets for 33 runs in 4 overs, besides taking 1 wicket to Arshdeep Singh, Rishi Dhawan and Liam Livingstone.
