In the final of the 15th season of IPL played here today, the impressive bowling by the Gujarat Titans bowlers led by Hardik Pandya helped Rajasthan Royals to score 130 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs with the help of Gujarat Titans. The wicket set a new record by winning and becoming champions in their first season.
Gujarat did not have a good start with Riddhiman Saha losing the wicket for just 9 runs and then losing the wicket of Matthew Wade in the fifth over for just 23 runs. It looked as if the pitch was too tight for batting, when Hardik came up with a 63-run partnership with Gill to take the score to 86 and Hardik was dismissed for 34 off 30 balls. The rest of the work was done by Gille Miller. Gile hit six before the 19th over to give Gujarat the victory. He was 45 off 43 balls while Miller was unbeaten on 32 off 19 balls.
Deciding to bat first after winning the toss, Rajasthan Royals had a slow start and scored 44 for 1 in the powerplay. Successful Jaiswal was dismissed for 22 runs. Rajasthan Royals lost one wicket after another in an attempt to make a quick run after a low run in the powerplay. Samson was dismissed for just 14 while Devdutt Paddikal was dismissed for just 2 off 10 balls.
His biggest blow came in 12 overs when Butler was dismissed for just 39 and his score was just 79. Hetmeyer was also dismissed for just 11 runs as Rajasthan lost 5 wickets for 94 runs and then Rajasthan lost 4 wickets in the final 5 overs to add only 35 runs. For Gujarat, Captain Hardik bowled hard and gave only 17 runs in 4 overs and took 3 wickets to break his waist. Hardik took 3 for 17 while R Sai Kishore took 2 and Rashid Khan, Yash Dayal and Mohammad Shami took 1-1.
In the 14 years since the start of the IPL, no team has become a champion in its debut season
The Gujarat Titans made history by winning the title in their debut season by defeating Rajasthan Royals by 7 wickets in the final of the 15th season of IPL played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad today. This is the first time in 14 years since the IPL started in 2008 that a team has won the IPL title in its debut season. Between the 15 seasons of IPL when Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings were given a two-year ban, Super Giants and Gujarat Lions were added but they could not become champions in their debut season.
