Everyone saw the world of moon and stars in the sky while listening to the lullabies of mother, grandmother and grandmother while sleeping under the open sky in childhood. In the bustling life of the cities and the environment full of pollution, neither the clear sky nor the moon and stars are visible anymore. But even today in villages and pollution-free areas this world of moon and stars can be seen, mesmerizing everyone. India is eager to write a new history in the field of astrotourism.
The stars will travel from the moon to the earth
According to the information, the Night Sky Century will be established in Henle, located in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir. Astronomers will soon be able to visit the moon and starry world from here. With this, the name of Ladakh in the history of astronomical tourism will forever be imprinted on the mind of the world. Here astronomers from around the world will study the moon and starry world closely.
The Night Sky Century will be established at an altitude of 15 thousand feet
To visit the world of moon and stars, the central government is going to set up the country’s first night sky sanctuary at Henle, a sanctuary located in Changthang, Ladakh. At an altitude of 15,000 feet, this site is unique in that it is the world’s highest site for optical, infrared and gamma ray telescopes. The Ladakh administration, the Leh Autonomous Hill Development Council and the Indian Institute of Astrophysics have also signed an MoU with the Indian Institute of Astrophysics to establish a night sky century here.
Henle already has an astronomical observatory
Henle already has an astronomical observatory. Scientists from all over the world still come here to observe the celestial phenomena. Being located in the cold desert of Ladakh, the constellation is clearly visible even on dark nights in this region. That’s why Henley was chosen for the Night Sky Century. The special thing is that the sky is visible here throughout the year. Because the weather here is always dry. No other country or region in the world has clearer skies.
Henle Monastery was here in the 17th century
If we look at the history of the country, Hanle Monastery was located here in the 17th century. India has already established the Gamma Ray Telescope and the Himalayan Chandra Telescope here. In this sense, this area was considered the most suitable for the Night Sky Century. Minister of State in PMO Jitendra Singh has intensified efforts to establish Night Sky Century. PM Modi himself is also showing great interest in this project. In such a situation, the establishment of the Night Sky Century can be hoped for soon.
