Chennai: Bengaluru’s teenage chess player Pranav Anand has become India’s 76th Grandmaster. He achieved this feat by crossing the 2500 ELO rating at the ongoing World Youth Chess Championship in Mamaia, Romania. A 15-year-old player, Pranav had fulfilled the remaining criteria for the Grand Master title. To become a Grand Master, a player has to achieve three Grand Master Norms and in addition their ‘Live Rating’ must exceed 2500 ELO points.
- Achieved this feat by crossing the 2500 ELO rating at the ongoing World Youth Chess Championship in Mamaia, Romania.
- Pranav previously achieved two Grandmaster norms at the Sitges Open in January 2022 and Vasserkapso round robin events in March 2022.
Pranav achieved the third and final Grandmaster norm at the BL Chess Festival in Switzerland in July. Pranav’s coach V Saravan told PTI that he is fond of chess. He loves the game and is ready to practice for hours. After Pranav’s victory in the ninth round of the Under-16 category of the World Youth Chess Championship, Saravan said, “He is particularly good at calculation and end game. Right now these two are his strong points. Pranav previously achieved two Grandmaster norms at the Sitges Open in January 2022 and Vasserkapso round robin events in March 2022.
Wrestling World: Ravi Dahiya out of medal race
Belgrade: Olympics silver medalist Indian wrestler Ravi Dahiya crashed out of the medal race at the World Championship Wrestling after losing to Uzbekistan’s Gulomjon Abdulaev in the 57kg qualification round here on Friday. Naveen, on the other hand, advanced to the bronze medal match by defeating world number four Sarbaz Talgat of Uzbekistan 11-3 in the opening round of the 70kg repechage. Abdullaev missed out on the bronze medal repechage round, losing to Albanian wrestler Zelimkhan Abakarov.
