New Delhi: There has been a controversy regarding an article published in a Spanish newspaper about the Indian economy. According to reports, a Spanish weekly published front-page news about India’s growing economy, in which India’s economic growth is portrayed by a snake charmer. A graph showing a snake rising from a snake charmer’s basket printed on the newspaper page has been used to show economic growth. The article was published in a Spanish newspaper on October 9, to which a large number of people, including BJP MPs, expressed their opposition. The headline of the article reads ‘Indian Economy Times’.
The BJP MP has expressed strong opposition to this. The BJP MP from Bangalore Central shared a photo of a newspaper article on Twitter, saying that while India’s strong economy is getting global recognition, even after decades of independence, India’s image of snake charmers is called stupidity. In Waghara, they said that the BJP MP further said that changing the foreign mindset is a very difficult task.
Zerodha CEO Nitin Kamat also criticized the Spanish publication. Kamat tweeted that it is good that the world is paying attention to the Indian economy, but it is insulting to show India through a snake cartoon. Famous writer Rajat Sethi also raised questions on it. Rajat said that while the entire world is paying attention to the prowess of the Indian economy, their discriminatory portrayal of Indian snake charmers continues.
At the same time, other users on social media have also appeared to be very upset with the Spanish newspaper’s article. One user said, ‘How shameless these people are, whatever these people are trying to show, India will progress and prosper despite their sarcasm.’ At the same time, another user said that it doesn’t matter. Whatever they think, we will keep moving forward. At the same time, another user said that this is colonial thinking, which can never change for India.
