New Delhi: 5G network has been launched in India from October 1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the launch of 5G network from Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. Both Airtel and Reliance Jio have started the 5G rollout in select cities and are likely to cover the entire country by 2024. However, after a few days of this announcement, cyber frauds have also become active. In the name of 5G, many users of different states have also become victims of fraud. So it is important to understand how you can and cannot get 5G services on your phone. To avoid 5G related scams, don’t forget these five mistakes.
Avoid making these mistakes
You are promising to update your phone to 5G through the app and the link sent to the email. When these links are full of malware and scammers steal your personal data. Do not click on any such link to upgrade your SIM card from 4G to 5G. Note that 5G cannot be activated remotely in your phone. Do not share personal information and OTP with anyone making such a claim. For 5G services, just rely on the official app of your telecom service provider. Do not download any app that promises to enable 5G on your phone.
These cities have not started 5G service
You cannot get 5G internet in a city where 5G services have not been launched yet. Wait for your telecom service provider to launch 5G in your city. Airtel has launched 5G in eight cities namely Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Siliguri, Nagpur and Varanasi, while Jio has started beta testing in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Varanasi. Over the next few years, 5G services will gradually roll out across the country. Jio has promised to do so by December 2023 and Bharti Airtel by March 2024. In such a situation, don’t fall for anyone to activate 5G.
Requirements for 5G service
Remember that to use 5G internet, you need to have a 5G phone. 5G internet cannot be used in 4G phones without any software and app updates. If someone promises 5G service in a 4G phone, don’t fall for it. Smartphone users do not need a new SIM to run 5G. Airtel and Jio have already announced that only their 4G SIMs are 5G capable. So, don’t fall for scammers offering to upgrade your 4G SIM to 5G.
