On the occasion of Diwali, Muhurt Trading has got off to a great start. Today, Sensex and Nifty opened in one hour trading. Sensex rose 647 points to open above 59,950. At the same time Nifty has also increased by 192.15 points to reach 17,768.45 points. Almost all the indices including IT, Pharma, Auto, FMCG are seeing an increase. 25 of the 30 stocks included in the Sensex are trading in the green. LT, BAJAJFINSV, HDFC, M&M, SBIN and DRREDY are seeing good gains. Goddess Lakshmi was worshiped before trending.

Actor Ajay Devgan arrived at BSE to participate in Lakshmi Puja and promote his films Drishtham 2 and Thank God. Trading in the market for Muhurta trading started at 6.15 pm. During Muhurta trading, there was a pre-open trading session from 6:00 pm to 6:08 pm. The market has historically performed very well in Muhurta trading. Sensex remained higher for most of the time.
The Sensex has closed in the green in seven of the last 10 years during Diwali trading, which is considered auspicious by Dalal Street investors. That means investors have made profit within one hour of trading. Since 2012, there have been only three occasions of Muhurta trading in 2012, 2016 and 2017. While Sensex has hurt investors. The year 2017 was the worst Diwali in the last decade with the Sensex losing 194 points. 2016 ended flat with a loss of just 11 points. At the same time 2018 has been the best Diwali when the Sensex climbed 246 points.
How was the market last year?
Last year, during the muhurta of Diwali, the stock market was strong. Sensex surged over 300 points while Nifty also closed above 17900. The Sensex rose 307 points to close at 60079. At the same time Nifty also closed at 17917 with an increase of 88 points. Good buying was seen in Bank, Auto, Financial, FMCG, IT and Realty stocks.
The Sensex-Nifty had opened in the green during muhurta trading for one hour on last year’s Diwali i.e. 2021. At 6.15 pm, BSE Sensex opened at 60,207.97 and NSE Nifty opened at 17,935.05. Both were trading on green mark throughout the trading session. The 30-share benchmark Sensex closed up 296 points or 0.49 percent at 60,067.62, while the Nifty closed at 17,916.80, up 88 points. Meanwhile, heavy buying was seen in all sectors of Sensex.
