BJP’s victory in UP and Gujarat was also record breaking. For the first time in 37 years, the ruling party came back to power in Uttar Pradesh. Narayan Dutt Tiwari was the last Chief Minister of UP to win a consecutive term in 1985. In Gujarat, BJP broke its own record by winning 156 out of 182 seats in the state for the seventh time. AAP won 5 seats in Gujarat for the first time and became a national party.

Assembly elections in five states
