On the second day of the country’s biggest automotive show, Auto Expo 2023, MG Motor India showcased the future of mobility in India with a greater focus on sustainability, MG Motor India unveiled its third generation Hydrogen Fuel Cell technology with New Energy. Vehicles (NEV) (New Energy Vehicles) exhibited.
MG Unique 7 debuts
With this the MG Euniq 7 is a 7-seater hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) luxury MPV making its debut in India. This model continues to be sold in global markets under the name Maxus Unique 7. It is the only passenger FCEV in production in MG’s parent company SAIC’s global portfolio. In terms of dimensions, the Euniq 7 measures 5225 mm in length, 1980 mm in width and 1938 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 3198 mm. The MPV uses the brand’s advanced FCEV technology.
The MG Euniq 7’s powertrain setup consists of a 92kW fuel cell stack with a permanent magnet electric motor making 201 bhp. It has three hydrogen tanks with a cumulative capacity of 6.4 kg. Hydrogen is stored at a pressure of 70 MPa and the tanks are filled in 3 to 5 minutes. With a full tank the Euniq 7 MPV promises a range of up to 605 km (on the NEDC cycle). The Euniq 7 MPV can accelerate from 0 to 50 kmph in 4.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 150 kmph.
Can also work in low temperature
The fuel tank is made of carbon fiber reinforcement capable of withstanding high temperatures of 842 °C. Interestingly, the system can operate even at extremely low temperatures (as low as -30 °C). The company says that low temperatures do not affect its range. The world’s leading hydrogen fuel cell system, according to the company, demonstrates MG’s commitment to providing clean and efficient travel based on green, renewable power sources.
Hydrogen fuel-cell systems were first launched in 2001 as the Phoenix No. 1 fuel-cell vehicle project. Now the newly developed third generation fuel-cell system also known as PROME P390. The system comes with state-of-the-art features such as integrated design, high power density, high reliability and excellent environmental compatibility.
The world-leading fuel-cell technology with a system power of 92 kW complies with the highest safety standards and performs well on key performance indicators such as comfort, fuel, economy and service life. PROME P390’s intelligent control algorithms also provide quick response and precise control of the vehicle. Fuel-cell systems can be used in fuel-cell passenger cars, city buses, medium and heavy trucks, and other vehicle platforms.
This system purifies the air
Fuel cell vehicles that use hydrogen as fuel have significant advantages. Like pollution free, high efficiency, high load, fast refueling and long battery life. The PROME P390 system promises the best performance on these parameters with EUNIQ 7, a hydrogen fuel-cell powered vehicle. It also acts as an air purifier, purifying the air equal to the breath of 150 adults in just one hour of driving.
