Gandhinagar: (Gandhinagar) Gujarat’s disaster management has always been a leader in preparedness and determination against natural calamities. As Gujarat has a 1600 km long coastline, the coastal areas of the state are frequently affected by cyclones. To meet the situation of such storms, 76 Multipurpose Cyclone Shelters with advanced facilities have been constructed in the coastal areas.

Today as the state gears up to fight the possible effects of Cyclone Biperjoy, these shelters are proving to be a boon to the affected people. These 76 multipurpose cyclone shelters include 25 at Junagadh, 29 at Gir Somnath, 4 at Porbandar, 4 at Devbhoomi Dwarka, 4 at Kutch, 2 at Amreli, 1 at Jamnagar, 1 at Navsari, 5 at Bharuch and 1 at Ahmedabad.
In addition, 1521 shelter homes have been set up immediately in these 8 districts of Kutch-Saurashtra region, including 196 in Junagadh, 173 in Kutch, 56 in Jamnagar, 140 in Porbandar, 182 in Devbhoomi Dwarka, 507 in Gir Somnath, 31 in Morbi and 236 in Rajkot. Homes have been erected. Regular visits are being made to these shelter homes by medical teams, and proper health checks are being done by these teams of the people shifted there. When a possible storm strikes, full vigilance is being maintained by the system to prevent any loss of life in the state. For this, the state government has emphasized on the evacuation of people living in cyclone-prone areas, and a total of more than 94,000 people from 8 districts have been evacuated to safer places so far.
8930 children, 4697 elderly and 1131 pregnant women were evacuated
So far, a total of 94,427 citizens have been evacuated to safe places in 8 districts which are likely to be affected by the cyclone, 46,823 in Kutch, 4864 in Junagadh, 9942 in Jamnagar, 4379 in Porbandar, 10,749 in Devbhoomi Dwarka, 1605 in Gir Somnath, 9243 in Morbi and 6822 in Rajkot. has come , including 8930 children, 4697 elderly and 1131 pregnant women.
