New Delhi: Employees are the most important resource for any organization. But over the last one year, the speed with which IT companies have fired employees to make profits has shaken the foundation of this thinking. But Indian companies are moving towards doing something different. Wipro Ltd, the country’s third largest software company, is preparing to spend $1 billion on training employees for AI, which is causing companies to lay off employees.
Wipro on Wednesday announced spending $1 billion to train all its 2.5 lakh employees in artificial intelligence (AI) and adopt the technology across its product offerings. A portion of this amount will be spent over the next three years to bring together 30,000 employees from cloud, data analytics, consulting and engineering teams to adopt the technology across all internal operations and solutions offered to customers, Wipro said in a statement.
Regarding this, the company said that “Wipro will train all its 2.5 lakh employees in the next 12 months on fundamental aspects of AI and its responsible use.” The company will continue to provide customized training to employees in AI-specific roles.” Artificial intelligence is being enabled to create multi-million dollar businesses in various sectors of the economy.
Employees will learn software like ChatGPT
Generative AI such as ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot and Stable Diffusion have attracted worldwide attention in the past few months. Keeping these possibilities in mind, Wipro is going to train its employees in AI. For this it will also prepare a ‘curriculum’ which will have different roles for different levels of employees. This is expected to strengthen the company’s grip on its research and development activities and data analytics.
