If you’re a Londoner, you’ve no doubt got some pretty strong opinions on where’s the best place to live in the capital.
The mere mention of ‘south of the river’ leaves some cold, while others may as well get ‘south west is best’ tattooed on their foreheads.
But now, a new ranking has revealed the most desirable areas in London, and it won’t come as a surprise that some of the poshest spots in the capital all make the top 10.
And the neighbourhood people want to move to the most? That goes to north London’s leafy Hampstead.
Known for attracting A-list residents such as Harry Styles and Ricky Gervais, and with the sprawling Hampstead Heath on your doorstep, it’s got a lot to boast about.
But, if you’re house hunting around there, be warned. According to Foxton’s the average price of a Hampstead house last year was a whopping £1,847,180.
The list, which was part of Time Out’s ranking of the Coolest Neighbourhoods in the World, was compiled by asking 12,000 people about their city’s areas. One of the questions asked was: where would you like to move in your city?

Second place for Londoners went to Chelsea. While you might bump into a few reality stars there, you can also wonder down the bustling King’s Road, head to the Saatchi Gallery and stroll along the side streets, picking out which townhouse you’d like to move into.

- Kensington
- Soho
- Highgate
Rounding out the top three was north London’s Islington.
The area’s Upper Street is home to an array of bars, restaurants and shops, or if you fancy a more laid-back afternoon, mooch along the canal – just mind those cyclists.
Plenty of other glam neighbourhoods also made the cut, from Soho to Notting Hill.
Ted Lasso’s Richmond was one of the only south London area to make the cut – but we can see why: the area comes alive during the summer, with a glorious park, and a river perfect attempting to row along.
The other was Greenwich, the home of literal time, as well as the popular market, and stunning views across London from the observatory.
