Stop the rot
THE clampdown on bogus sickness benefit idlers is long overdue.
But even a 12-month limit seems far too generous.
And it has become a sorry hallmark of this Government to stage a big speech announcing what it is considering rather than just putting it into action.
If it is Rishi Sunak’s “moral mission” to prevent scroungers refusing to work when they are fit and able, and fair enough, change the rules and do it.
The numbers on these handouts are absurd.
Many claimants are of course genuine. Plenty are stranded on NHS waiting lists.
The truly sick and disabled must not be punished by Government work coaches.
But many others now choose life on the dole, as they once did under Labour.
It is right, both for the economy and for them, to make that impossible.

WHAT a week of calamitous humiliation for Scotland’s SNP “government”.
It’s not just Nicola Sturgeon’s husband being charged with embezzlement.
It’s the sudden scrapping of their flagship climate pledge after realising that posturing “on the right side of history” put them on the wrong side of reality.
Remember their sanctimonious rage when Mr Sunak postponed his climate goals to 2035?
What fools they look now. Meanwhile their woke trans stance was destroyed by the Cass Review, forcing them to U-turn on that too. Good.
The independence obsession has condemned Scotland to plummeting standards, shorter lives and government by low-grade, myopic idiots.
Lost the plod
SOMETHING is rank within our police when a man is threatened with arrest for looking “quite openly Jewish”.
The cop who made this appalling remark claims Gideon Falter’s presence and skullcap would “antagonise” London’s hate marchers.
These wretched racists duly then threatened Mr Falter.
How can Mayor Sadiq Khan and Met chief Mark Rowley still let these displays of violent bigotry blight our capital?
What is Britain becoming when cops appease terror-backing thugs and harass peaceful citizens for looking Jewish?

THE monstrous bill increases which the water giants propose are a sickening outrage Ofwat must reject.
The watchdog exists to protect consumers, not to let Southern Water hit them for another 70 per cent — or 56 under Thames Water — by 2030 for the same basic service they are entitled to.
Why should the public bail out years of ineptitude and greed, or mind-boggling salaries paid to undeserving executives?
