It’s a newly popular getaway for Brits – but now you can get more bang for your buck, too.
Just a four hour flight from London is the stunning Turkish resort town of Fethiye.
A dream holiday destination for many, we’re sure, Fethiye is a paradise for beach lovers, with its impressive coral reefs and crystal clear waters. From diving and snorkelling to a bustling restaurants and bars, you can chill in the day and explore after dark, too.
If the gorgeous views, sunshine and myriad of activities didn’t entice you enough, perhaps the news that new data shows Turkey as one of the top destinations where the British Pound currently goes the furthest might convince you to book your next trip?
Turkey has ranked ninth place among countries where the pound goes the furthest, according to data experts at NetVoucherCodes.
The team have created a currency exchange tool so holidaymakers can find out which destinations they’ll get more bang for their buck. The tool pulls in monthly exchange rate data from each major currency around the world and compares its strength to the Great British Pound.
While factors such as flight time and weather definitely play into the decision of where to book a holiday, money remains a huge focus, too – and travelling somewhere where the pound is strong means Brits can get more for their money, allowing them to have an affordable holiday.
We didn’t choose the travel math life, the travel math life chose us…
Topping the list is Lebanon, with the Middle-Eastern country coming in at 493.22% for its one-year percentage change.
Ranking second is Argentina (236.83%), with Nigeria placing third (117.63%), Malawi fourth (63.41%) and Egypt pipping Turkey to the top five, with 56.72%.
Turkey itself (ranking ninth place) shows 22.73% for its one-year percentage change – but over five years, technically ranked third, with 523.85%. Plus it’s a shorter flight time, meaning more time on the beach for you.
According to the Gov.uk website, the FCDO advises against all travel to parts of Turkey. These unadvised parts include within 10km of the Turkey-Syria border, Sirnak city and Hakkari Province.
However, fortunately, Fethiye doesn’t fall into any of those categories, so, currently, the guidelines allow for a visit to this part of the country.
