Where is Oxfordshire?

Oxfordshire is a county in the south of England, bordering Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Gloucestershire, Warwickshire and Witney. The county town is Oxford, which is well known for its universities – Oxford University and Ruskin College.

Why live in Oxfordshire?

One of the most desirable counties to live in in the UK, Oxfordshire is famed for its stunning countryside and historic towns and villages.
The county is well-served by transport links, with excellent motorway and rail connections to London and other major cities.
Oxfordshire is also rightly regarded as a cent of excellence for education, with a number of highly sought-after schools as well as world-renowned universities.

The country is packed with amazing scenery, boarded on three sides by areas of outstanding natural beauty (AONBs) including the Cotswolds, the Chilterns and the Oxfordshire Downs. There are plenty of picturesque villages and market towns to explore, as well as miles of beautiful countryside waiting to be discovered on foot, bike or horseback.

The county town of Oxford is renowned for its historical architecture and lively cultural scene, while other towns such as Banbury, Bicester and Witney offer a more peaceful pace of life.

Average property prices in Oxfordshire

In January 2025, the average property price in Oxfordshire was around £472,000. However, prices vary considerably depending on location. In the city of Oxford itself, the average price over the past year was about £585,000, for example, while in rural areas it can be much lower.

This price range puts it in a similar bracket to neighbouring counties such as Buckinghamshire (£489,000) and Berkshire (£452,000). It’s a touch more expensive than Hampshire (£390,000). Overall, Oxfordshire is not cheap, but the higher price tag comes with a lot of bonuses.
