The black sheep jumper. The pink gingham trousers. The revenge dress.
There’s no denying that Princess Diana was a fashion icon, and her ‘fits are just as beloved today as they were in the 80s and 90s.
But perhaps her most well-loved look wasn’t a gown and tiara, but rather her go-to casual formula: a sweatshirt and cycling shorts.
You only have to take a stroll around Clapham Common to see that this outfit is as on trend as ever.
Lady Di, we know you’d have loved wearing this look while sipping an oat flat white, just as much as we do.
And while the People’s Princess had an array of oversized sweatshirts that she was often papped out and about it, the most iconic was surely the Fly Virgin Atlantic navy jumper.

The Princess’ gym staple featured the Flying Lady motif, which draws on the 1930s pin-up style, set between the words ‘Fly’ and ‘Atlantic’, while the word ‘Virgin’ featured within the icon’s cape.
Worn on November 20, 1995, she paired it with salmon coloured cycling shorts, tortoiseshell glasses, chunky trainers and white Gen Z approved ankle socks.
The date is particularly significant too, as it was the day her interview with Martin Bashir was aired, when she uttered the famous line: ‘There were three of us in this marriage.’
And now, to mark 30 years since Diana wore the sweatshirt, Virgin Atlantic are rereleasing it.
Fashionistas can buy the jumper from the Virgin Atlantic website for £49, with £10 from every purchase going towards Save The Children.
If you want to get your hands it though, you’ll have to be quick, as just 250 jumpers will be available in the first drop.
Sophie Woodford, Head of Creative and Design at Virgin Atlantic said: ‘Princess Diana’s Virgin Atlantic jumper became an icon of freedom and individuality.
‘Replicating it for Save the Children lets us celebrate her legacy with a fresh twist, combining style, purpose and a little Virgin Atlantic spirit along the way.’
It’s not the first time that Virgin Atlantic have proved themselves to be the most stylish of airlines.
Their red uniforms are recognisable the world over, and some of the most famous fashion designers have been involved in their creation.
In 1991, Elizabeth Emanuel, the very same woman behind Diana’s wedding dress, was brought in to overhaul the Virgin uniforms, which had remained unchanged since the airline first took flight in the 80s.
The power suite-esque jacket and pencil skirt, with their wing badges, are still considered to be Virgin’s most iconic look. Founder Richard Branson himself even told Metro that if there was one uniform he’d love to see make a comeback, it’d be the ‘The Emanuel.’
Since then, the likes of John Rocha and Vivienne Westwood have also been involved in making sure Virgin cabin crew look the part.
