British independent filmmaker Joseph Iyore has completed production on LÉLEK: Chapter I, a supernatural drama short film serving as the opening chapter of a larger anthology project currently in development under Iyore Studios.
Shot in Scotland, LÉLEK: Chapter I blends elements of dark fantasy, tragedy, and psychological storytelling, exploring themes of grief, identity, love, and redemption across multiple timelines. While the story itself is fictional, the film draws inspiration from historical events and periods in history where accusations, persecution, and witch trials led to real human suffering and tragedy. The film is currently being prepared for release and festival screenings, while development on Chapter II is already underway.
This story follows a man devastated by the loss of his family during the witch trials. Left for dead, he is saved through a supernatural bargain brokered by a mysterious spiritual figure, granting him eternal life at the cost of his soul. As centuries pass, he journeys through different eras searching for meaning, redemption, and a connection to the love he lost.
Developed as a proof of concept for a wider anthology universe, the project combines cinematic visuals with emotionally driven storytelling, using supernatural elements to explore the lasting emotional effects of grief, vengeance, and sacrifice.
“LÉLEK was created from an interest in how grief can shape a person across time,” says Iyore. “At its core, the story is about loss, redemption, and the struggle to hold onto your humanity when consumed by pain.”
The completion of Chapter I marks the beginning of a wider anthology series that will continue to expand its mythology and interconnected narratives through future chapters currently in development.
