A WOMAN has slammed Toby Carvery for increasing the price of their food, insisting she can make her own better quality roast at home for less.
Gab admitted she was “horrified” when she booked a meal at the Exeter restaurant, only to find the price had been bumped from £7.50 in October to £10.49 in November.
“A couple of weeks ago I went to Toby Carvery and I was horrified at the prices of a, the carvery and b, the refillable soft drinks,” she said in a video on her TikTok page.
“Prices of the food had gone up by £2.50 in one month, which for the quality of a TC is just not on in my opinion.
“And the total bill for two people, bear in mind we literally had two carveries and two soft drinks was £24.76.”
“Only been to a Toby once,” one person wrote in the comments section.
“Lukewarm, over cooked food and it felt like a works canteen.”
“It’s vile,” another added.
“Everything’s tasteless,” a third commented.
“I think Tony carvery has had it’s day, it’s drab and dried up and served lukewarm!” someone else added.
“I don’t use them anymore.”
“I hate the quality of toby carvery now, it’s not good at all in my opinion,” another wrote.
“Toby carvery is not like it was years ago, it’s lost its way,” someone else agreed.
Gab then decided to take a trip to M&S to see if she could get the ingredients for a roast dinner to cook at home for less.
She got Maris Piper potatoes, a red onion, a carrot, a parsnip,a broccoli and a leek.
“I picked up some chicken legs for £1.50, a jar of cranberry sauce and a stuffing mix as well, and overall the bill came to £10.08,” Gab added.
“So definitely cheaper to stay at home and cook your own food, and definitely better quality as well.”
“Would you rather stay home or spend out?” she concluded.
But not everyone agreed with Gab’s experiment.
“Toby carvery have to pay for a Cook, servers, electric and gas.. plus the food and you’re complaining,” one person commented on the video.
“I’m complaining bc they have increased their prices from £7.50 to £10.49 and their reasoning is ‘festive pricing’,” Gab responded.
“You did not include your gas or electric for cooking it,” another wrote.
To which Gab replied: “Probs cost about £3”.
“Tbf yeah it’s cheaper but u ain’t gotta wash up afterwards,” a third wrote.
“Everyone seems to hate washing up afterwards,” Gab responded.
“I think £25 for all u can eat carvery and 2 refill drinks is very reasonable.!!!” someone else insisted.
“I go most weekends cos I can’t b arsed to cook tbh.”
“Not comparable, you’re paying for not having the faff of doing it yourself & for unlimited drinks & food (aside from meat) for 2 people, that’s STILL a great price,” another wrote.
“Well OBVIOUSLY making your own is cheaper,” someone else grumbled.
